Build the the Dream Online Banking Account

While it may be only fantasy, what if you could have any features you want from a bank in an online account. What would they be? Keep in mind the bank has to make money to survive so be realistic and go ahead and dream. I will publish the dream account later here on this blog.

I will start it off with a set of features I would like below, but let me know your thoughts on these features and whatever else would make your life easier. Here we go (many of these features exists today of course):

* Great Online Experience - simple to use, modern look and feel, high usability
* Tight Smart Phone integration - remote deposit, alerts, bill pay, regular banking functions
* Strong Security - out of band authentication, powerful alerting and monitoring
* Free ATM at high number of locations
* Fair and simple overdraft policy and options, no games with check processing ordering to increase fees
* Personal Financial Management Software to help aggregate account info and gain insight
* Great Bill Pay that is easy to use, calculates payment dates from due dates
* Electronic Statements with free storage up to 7 years
* Electronic transfers in and out of my account for free

Let me know your thoughts in determining the dream online banking account!

  1. Here are some more from Carl K:

Ability to receive e-bills from customers' payees.

Ability to open e-bills and send minimum, full or partial payment by any date or due date.

No automatic overdraft protection unless from available funds in related accounts

Ability to pay any payee, including individuals

Ultra secure debit card (maybe a smart card)

Recurring payment capability with several timing options (forever until I stop, until date mm-dd-yyyy, exact number of payments) and the option for last payment to be different.

Free ccess to credit reports and credit score.

Ability to categorize payees or payments by expense category for small business expense reporting. (Maybe this is part of your personal finance management already)

Statements with sub-totals by expense account category.

Ability to view checks and deposit documents online.

    Automatic budget creation and management.

Money market or other account access to maximize interest or dividends on savings.

Single hit fees. For example, if account is accidentally overdrawn, apply single fee for all bounced transactions rather than 1 fee per transaction.

Email and text message alerts for low balance triggers, payments due, new monthly statements

    Instant balance transfers between accounts

Will send more if I can think of them later. What are you up to?
